Seedling cultivation refers to a method of sowing seeds indoors or in a greenhouse, and then transplanting them to the field for cultivation after the seedlings grow out. Seedling cultivation can increase the germination rate of seeds, promote the growth of seedlings, reduce the occurrence of pests and diseases, and increase yields.
There are many methods for seedling cultivation, and the following are common ones:
● Plug tray seedling method: sow seeds in plug trays, cover with thin soil, keep the soil moist, and thin out and restock seedlings after germination.
● Seedling tray seedling method: sow seeds in seedling trays, cover with thin soil, keep the soil moist, and thin out and restock seedlings after germination.
● Nutrient pot seedling method: sow seeds in nutrient pots, cover with thin soil, keep the soil moist, and thin out and restock seedlings after germination.
● Hydroponic seedling method: soak the seeds in water, and after the seeds absorb enough water, put the seeds in a hydroponic container, maintain water temperature and light, and transplant the seeds after germination.
The following points should be noted when raising seedlings:
● Choose suitable varieties: Choose suitable varieties according to local climatic conditions and market demand.
● Choose a suitable sowing period: Determine the suitable sowing period according to variety characteristics and cultivation conditions.
● Prepare a suitable seedling medium: The seedling medium should be loose and breathable, well-drained, and free of pests and diseases.
● Treat seeds: Soak in warm water, germinate, and other methods to improve seed germination rate.
● Maintain a suitable temperature: The temperature should be maintained during seedling raising, generally 20-25℃.
● Maintain a suitable humidity: The humidity should be maintained during seedling raising, generally 60-70%.
● Provide appropriate light: Appropriate light should be provided during seedling raising, generally 6-8 hours a day.
● Thinning and replanting: Thinning is performed when the seedlings grow 2-3 true leaves, and 1-2 seedlings are retained in each hole; replanting is performed when the seedlings grow 4-5 true leaves to fill the holes left by thinning.
●Transplanting: Transplant the seedlings when they have 6-7 true leaves.
